According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, police established a three-person probe committee for the investigation, which is headed by the Additional IGP (Admin).

Nine months after the Awami League government was overthrown by a student-led rebellion, former President Abdul Hamid, who served two consecutive terms, quietly fled the nation early Wednesday morning. This prompted the authorities to suspend three officials for dereliction of duty.

According to the Special Branch of Police, Hamid boarded Thai Airways flight TG-340 and left Dhaka at 3:05 a.m.

Immigration and airport security personnel informed Dhaka Tribune that “he departed the country yesterday night (early Thursday morning). “
According to reports, the former president reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at approximately 11 p.m., went through the procedures without any problems, and encountered no opposition.
According to immigration sources, he was able to fly overseas for “medical treatment” without arrest warrants or travel restrictions.
His brother-in-law, Dr. AM Naushad, and son, Riyad Ahmed, were with him.
Nonetheless, police headquarters verified in a notice on Thursday night that another superintendent of police from the airport immigration section had been removed due to carelessness.

Another two have been suspended pending investigation: a Special Branch officer and the investigating officer in a case in Kishoreganj Sadar that lists Abdul Hamid as a co-accused alongside former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Police headquarters also established a three-person investigative committee headed by the Additional IGP (Administration) to investigate the incident after receiving notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Additionally, the letter stated that the Kishoreganj district’s police superintendent had also been removed.

Before being elected president in April 2013, Abdul Hamid held the positions of speaker of parliament and deputy speaker. He was re-elected for a second term in 2018.

Hamid had been residing in his private home in Dhaka’s Nikunja area since his term ended in April 2023, when current President Md Shahabuddin took office.
