Internet Revolution: Starlink Goes Live in Bangladesh

Starlink Officially Launches in Bangladesh with Unlimited High-Speed Internet.

Starlink, the satellite internet service from Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has officially started its operations in Bangladesh, marking a significant step forward in the country’s digital infrastructure.

Announcement Made by Government Official

The news was confirmed on Tuesday (20 May) by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser. In a Facebook post, Taiyeb wrote,

“On Monday (19 May) afternoon, they informed me over a phone call and confirmed the matter on their X handle this morning.”

This swift confirmation follows a 90-day launch target set by the interim government.

Starlink Packages and Pricing in Bangladesh

Starlink is debuting with two subscription options:

  • Starlink Residence: Tk 6,000/month
  • Starlink Lite: Tk 4,200/month

Customers must also pay a one-time setup fee of Tk 47,000 for the required equipment. According to Taiyeb, both plans offer unlimited data with no speed caps and deliver up to 300 Mbps.

Orders Now Open for Customers

Starting today, customers in Bangladesh can place their orders for Starlink’s internet services. Taiyeb noted that although the pricing may seem high, the offering targets a premium customer base seeking uninterrupted, high-speed internet.

“Although expensive, this creates a sustainable alternative for premium customers to access high-quality and high-speed internet services,” he explained.

Business and Development Implications

Starlink’s arrival is expected to benefit greatly:

  • Companies operating in remote or underserved regions
  • NGOs needing stable connectivity for field work
  • Freelancers and entrepreneurs who rely on uninterrupted internet

Taiyeb added, “Companies will have opportunities to expand their business into areas where fibre or high-speed internet services are yet to reach.”

Nationwide Authorisation Granted

The interim government has officially authorised Starlink to operate across the country. The service operates via Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) satellites, allowing coverage in even the most rural areas—something traditional providers often struggle to deliver.
