It was first stated that the people in custody had entered India illegally sometime prior.

Four citizens of Bangladesh were arrested by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel early on Wednesday in the vicinity of the Jagadal border region of Ranisankail upazila in Thakurgaon district.

According to the boundary Guard Bangladesh (BGB) authorities, the event happened around 5:30 am, about 200 meters into Indian territory from boundary pillar 374/1-S.

It was first stated that the people in custody had entered India illegally sometime prior. A patrol unit from the BSF’s 184 Battalion’s Mukesh Camp apprehended them trying to re-enter Bangladesh without the required paperwork.

Three inmates’ identities are Shamim, 24, son of Ansarul Islam; Hamidul Islam, 31, son of Abdul Haque; and Mister, 32, son of Tariqul Islam. As of the time this story was filed, the identification of the fourth detainee could not be verified.

The commanding officer of BGB-50 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Tanzir Ahmed, stated: “We have already written to the BSF asking for a flag meeting. It is expected to happen by the afternoon. We are doing everything we can to return them to Bangladesh.

He went on to say that further details would be revealed following the flag meeting and that the inmates may have traveled to India in search of work.
