Al-Nassr Dominate Al-Khaleej to Close Gap on League Leaders

Riyadh | May 22, 2025
Al-Nassr delivered a commanding performance against Al-Khaleej in the Saudi Pro League on Thursday night, securing a 3-0 victory at Al-Awwal Park and keeping their title hopes alive.

Cristiano Ronaldo led the charge with a goal and an assist, while Marcelo Brozović and Otávio also scored in a match that showcased Al-Nassr’s attacking depth and defensive stability.

⚡ First-Half Control Sets the Tone

Al-Nassr took control early, dominating possession and forcing Al-Khaleej into their half. The breakthrough came in the 18th minute, when Brozović latched onto a loose ball at the edge of the box and fired it into the top corner.

Al-Khaleej struggled to respond, and Al-Nassr’s high press repeatedly tested their defensive line.

🌟 Ronaldo Shines Again

Cristiano Ronaldo doubled the lead just before halftime with a trademark finish, slotting the ball past the goalkeeper after a slick one-two with Otávio. The Portuguese star now sits atop the league’s goal-scoring chart with 26 goals this season.

In the second half, Ronaldo turned provider, assisting Otávio’s goal in the 63rd minute that sealed the win.

🔒 Strong Defensive Display

Despite a few late attempts by Al-Khaleej to claw back into the game, Al-Nassr’s defence held firm. Goalkeeper David Ospina made two crucial saves to preserve the clean sheet.

📊 What This Means for the Table

With this victory, Al-Nassr moves to second place with 69 points, just two points behind league leaders Al-Hilal. With just a few games left in the season, the race for the title remains wide open.

Al-Khaleej, meanwhile, remain in 12th place and will be looking to avoid relegation in the final stretch.

🗣️ Post-Match Reactions

“We knew how important this game was. The team showed focus and hunger,” said Al-Nassr manager Luis Castro. “We’re still in the hunt, and that’s all that matters right now.”

🗓️ What’s Next?

Al-Nassr will face Al-Raed next week in a must-win clash, while Al-Khaleej return home to take on Abha Club, hoping to bounce back.
